Nigeria’s Super Eagles enter Afcon 2025 under intense scrutiny following their failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After finishing second to South Africa in the qualifiers, Nigeria’s hopes of automatic qualification shifted to a playoff against the Democratic Republic of Congo, which ended 1–1 in regulation and was decided 4–3 on penalties in Rabat.
