'Alex doing Alex things, Ndidi holding the midfield' - Onyeka highlights Nigeria teammates contributions

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has shared his thoughts ahead of Nigeria’s crucial quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Brentford midfielder reflected on Nigeria’s impressive run so far in the tournament, noting the team’s effectiveness in front of goal.

“Our strikers, they scoring goals. I think that's what has helped us in the tournament,” Onyeka said. He highlighted the contributions of his teammates in different areas of the pitch, emphasizing their collective strength.

“Now we are ready. Alex is doing Alex things, you know, doing the passes, carrying the team forward. Wilfred is holding the midfield and me, I just do what I do best,” he added.

Nigeria remains the only team in the tournament to have won all their matches in 90 minutes, a record Onyeka attributes to the squad’s attacking efficiency and cohesion.

Addressing the conditions in Morocco, Onyeka compared the weather in Marrakech to that of Fes, where Nigeria previously played.

“It's good compared to Fes. I love the weather here,” he said. He stressed that the team’s focus remains on the task ahead. “No, we are set. We are focused on the game,” Onyeka stated.

Looking ahead to the challenge posed by Algeria, Onyeka acknowledged the strength of the North African side, but also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparation.

“Yeah, they are very good team. They've got nine points in the group stage. They won the round of 16 and it's not going to be an easy game definitely. But we just solely we want to focus on our game and see how we can get the win,” he explained.

The three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions will be aiming to maintain their perfect start in the 2025 Afcon when they take on Algeria in the quarter-final clash on Saturday.
