London born winger of Nigerian descent Nonso Madueke made his comeback from injury as PSV Eindhoven were defeated 1-0 by Arsenal in a UEFA Europa League clash at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.
The England U21 international couldn't make his season debut until this evening's clash against the Gunners due to an ankle injury he suffered in pre-season preparations.
Joel Ideho (manager's decision) and Ethan Nwaneri (ineligible) were omitted from Arsenal's matchday 23 after training with the first team at London Colney on Wednesday afternoon.
Mikel Arteta's side maintained their one hundred percent in Group A of the Europa League and are guaranteed qualification to the knockout stages as one of the top two teams in the group thanks to Granit Xhaka's match-winning strike.
Xhaka volleyed home Takehiro Tomiyasu’s right-wing cross.with 20 minutes left on the clock.
PSV struggled to create opportunities and their star player Cody Gakpo, who went the full ninety, was kept quiet by the Arsenal players.
Madueke came off the bench in the 65th minute as a replacement for Guus Til and the Dutch-Nigerian looked lively despite being inactive for 158 days.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and his team will have another chance to have a go at Arsenal next week when both clubs face off in Eindhoven on matchday five.
