According to The Metro, the teenager was reportedly spotted at the club's London Colney training base and it is rife the deal will be concluded in no time.
Greenwood, 16, was a subject of transfer speculation earlier this summer as a number of elite teams in Europe including Manchester United and Liverpool were interested in recruiting the services of the teenager.
He will join initially on a scholarship deal before agreeing to his first professional terms when he turns 17 in January 2019.
One of the most talented players to emerge from The Black Cats academy, he notched up six goals and six assists for the club's Under-18 side last term.
