League Two club Southend United were eliminated from the Emirates FA Cup at the first round stage following a 4-3 loss on penalties to National League side Boreham Wood on Saturday, November 7, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
On his FA Cup debut, Arsenal loanee James Olayinka netted in the 100th minute of extra time to take the game to penalties.
The non-league club were two goals up after 50 minutes, scoring through Jamal Fyfield but two goals in three minutes from Brandon
Goodship and Terrell Egbri forced extra time.
Olayinka ran more than half the length of the pitch, cut onto his right foot and found the bottom corner with a fine finish from inside the area to make it 3-3.
In the penalty shootout, the Hale End Academy product was successful from the spot but Matt Rush and Demetriou missed their efforts, sending the Blues out of the FA Cup race.
Aged 20, Olayinka played only ten senior games comprising six in the colours of Southend United and the others for Northampton Town, logging 734 minutes in total before scoring his first professional goal.
He has trained with Arsenal's first team on multiple occasions and was named in the matchday 18 against Standard Liege in the Europa League last December.
