Ademola Lookman was on target as Atletico Madrid fell to a 2-1 defeat against FC Barcelona in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.
The Nigeria international, who joined the Rojiblancos during the winter transfer window, produced a composed finish in the 31st minute, converting a precise delivery from Marcos Llorente to momentarily lift the home crowd after Barcelona’s early dominance.
Barcelona had raced into control of the encounter with quick-fire goals from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres in the 4th and 25th minutes respectively, putting the visitors in a strong position early on.
The strike increased Lookman's tally to two goals and two assists in six UEFA Champions League appearances for Atletico Madrid.
In total, the Nigerian international has recorded nine goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions for both Atalanta and Atletico Madrid this season.
The winger delivered an impressive all-round performance, posing a constant attacking threat on the right flank while also tracking back effectively to limit the influence of Yamal.
With 23 minutes remaining, Lookman was substituted and replaced by Nico González as Atletico looked to manage the closing stages of the encounter.
Despite the defeat on the night, Atletico Madrid did enough across both legs to secure progression, advancing to the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
