Birmingham City are the latest EFL Championship club linked with a summer move for former Flying Eagles winger Sammy Ameobi.
Football Insider claims that The Blues have identified Ameobi as a top transfer target and are prepared to challenge Middlesbrough FC for his signature.
The Newcastle United academy product was not retained by Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2020-2021 campaign and is set to become a free agent when he comes off contract on June 30.
In a two-year association with Forest, Ameobi scored eight goals and dished out eleven assists from 81 appearances across all competitions.
Ameobi could become the second English-born Nigerian player to join Birmingham City on a free transfer ahead of next season, after former Arsenal youth-teamer Chuks Aneke, who recently inked a two-year contract.
The 29-year-old Ameobi is a seasoned campaigner in the Championship with 191 games under his belt for five different clubs, namely Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough FC.
Sammy's brother, Shola Ameobi was a member of the Super Eagles squad to the 2014 World Cup.
