Borussia Dortmund teen sensation Youssoufa Moukoko is in line to break a Champions League record held by former Nigeria international and Chelsea legend Celestine Babayaro, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, Michael Zorc has confirmed that the Yaounde-born Germany U20 international will be registered for the group stage of the Champions League once he turns 16 on November 20, 2020.
"Yes, it's true. We will register Youssoufa for the Champions League via the B-list," Zorc told German newspaper Bild.
If Moukoko plays against Club Brugge on November 24, he would become the youngest footballer in history to feature in the UEFA Champions League aged 16 years and four days.
Assuming he's not involved against the Belgian champions, he still has a chance to break the record when Borussia Dortmund face Lazio on matchday six on December 2.
Babayaro currently holds the record for the youngest debutant in the Champions League when he was named in RSC Anderlecht's starting lineup against FC Steaua Bucuresti on 23 November 1994, aged 16 years and 87 days.
The Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medalist is also the youngest player to be sent off in the Champions League following his dismissal 37 minutes into the game against the Romanian side.
