Brentford coach praises Super Eagles midfielder for his performance vs Arsenal, Crystal Palace
Speaking at the pre-match press conference before his side's Premier League meeting with Aston Villa, Brentford manager Thomas Frank praised Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka for his performance in his first two competitive games for the Bees.
A summer signing from sister club FC Midtjylland in Denmark, Onyeka has started the two matches played by Brentford in the Premier League, against Arsenal and Crystal Palace, helping Spanish glovesman David Raya keep two clean sheets.
In the shock opening day win against the Gunners, he played with intensity, showed his willingness to work for his team, was calm in possession and drove forward when necessary.
The Bees fans appreciated the performance of Onyeka by giving him a standing ovation as he
went off the pitch in the 80th minute.
The FC Ebedei product held his own in the midfield battle against Palace's Premier League veteran Cheikhou Kouyate before he was replaced with 20 minutes left.
Asked if his new signings are settling in well, Thomas Frank told reporters : "They are settling in well, especially Kris Ajer and Frank Onyeka because they've played the first two games and done really well.
"Yoane came in a little later but we have big expectations in how he can help us. He had 90 minutes and a goal on Tuesday night.
"They are settling in well but at different stages of how they can perform now."
Onyeka will report for international duty early next week ahead of Nigeria's crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier against Liberia but won't be available for the trip to Cape Verde.
