Liverpool manager Arne Slot has acknowledged that Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen poses a significant challenge ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash with Galatasaray on Tuesday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Slot highlighted the Nigerian striker’s versatility and ability to influence games in multiple ways.
“I think Galatasaray has a lot of weapons, but transition is definitely one of them. Of course, one of the first ones you think about is [Victor] Osimhen, who is also a great striker in the box, can score from crosses, can score in multiple ways, but definitely a big threat on the counter-attack as well,” Slot was quoted as saying by Liverpool's official website.
Slot’s comments emphasize Osimhen’s capacity to threaten Liverpool both inside the penalty area and during fast breaks.
The Dutch manager also pointed out that the Galatasaray attack is not solely reliant on Osimhen.
Referencing the team's last encounter, added: “But they have more than only Osimhen in their front three that are really fast. Last game we played them, it was [Baris Alper] Yilmaz who was twice a bit too fast for us because twice he was going towards the goalkeeper in the first half.”
The last meeting between the two sides came on 30 September 2025 at RAMS Park in Istanbul during the UEFA Champions League league phase.
On that occasion, Osimhen was the decisive figure, as Galatasaray defeated Liverpool 1‑0.
The Super Eagles striker converted a 16th‑minute penalty, securing Galatasaray’s first European win over Liverpool this season.
Osimhen has already made a major impact in the current UEFA Champions League campaign, having scored seven goals so far.
He will be looking to increase his tally when the Turkish side faces the English Premier League giants again on Tuesday evening.
