Chelsea hero John Obi Mikel has made his non-competitive debut for EFL Championship club Stoke City, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Nigeria skipper was named in the starting lineup as the Potters thrashed Shrewsbury Town 5-1 at Clayton Wood training ground on Tuesday afternoon.
Stoke City, without Oghenekaro Etebo in the squad, led at the break thanks to Obi Mikel's late first half strike, after the Shrews had leveled from the spot through Whalley.
The central midfielder fired home a shot from the edge of the area to make it 2-1, before he was substituted at half-time.
For today's friendly, Mikel played with the number 13 shirt, which was worn by Victor Moses during his loan spell at the bet365 Stadium in the 2014-2015 season.
Stoke City's other scorers were Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Tom Ince, Benik Afobe and Tyrese Campbell.
Mikel could make his competitive debut for the Potters in Saturday's League Cup clash vs Blackpool, having come through today's game unscathed.
