Club Brugge striker Emmanuel Dennis is in deep mourning following the death of his older brother during a sailing race in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Nigeria international has been granted compassionate leave to attend the funeral of his brother which takes place today and is scheduled to return to Belgium on Thursday evening.
Popti Emmanuel Dennis, who was in early 40s, was killed after his boat capsized for an unknown reason.
"Despite an intense search, all help came too late," Club Brugge said in a statement published on their official website.
"Popti Emmanuel Dennis was known in Nigeria as a very renowned and experienced sailor who represented his country at the Africa Games.
"As a member of the Nigerian Navy, he also regularly participated in international regattas".
Dennis flew to Nigeria on Sunday shortly after the 2-0 win at Royal Antwerp, a game in which he was a non-playing substitute.
