Club Brugge sweating over the fitness of Onyedika before Mechelen clash

Club Brugge are sweating over the fitness of Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika ahead of their upcoming Jupiler Pro League matches, beginning with Wednesday's visit of K.V. Mechelen.

The central midfielder was forced off midway through the second half after sustaining an injury in an unfortunate incident as Club Brugge were beaten 2-1 by Union Saint-Gilloise.

Onyedika was clearly in discomfort as he left the pitch, immediately casting doubt over his availability for upcoming matches.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, via Voetbal Primeur, there is no immediate cause for concern, with early indications suggesting he could return sooner rather than later.

However, his return to action will depend on how he responds in training over the coming days.

Onyedika is feared to have suffered a knee injury before he was replaced by Hans Vanaken in the 68th minute.

This season, the FC Ebedei product has played 38 games in all competitions, recording three goals and two assists.

Nigeria manager Eric Chelle will be monitoring the fitness of Onyedika as he prepares his roster for next month's Unity Cup and two high profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

The former FC Midtjylland man delivered a standout performance as the Super Eagles defeated Uganda at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring a brace in a 3-1 victory.
