Super Eagles target Femi Azeez dream of reaching the Premier League suffered a temporary setback after Millwall were beaten 2-0 by Semi Ajayi's Hull City in the Championship playoff clash on Monday.
The Tigers produced an impressive away performance at The Den, with second-half goals from Mohamed Belloumi and Joe Gelhardt sealing the win to silence the home supporters and book Hull City’s place in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium.
Ajayi, who joined Hull City as a free agent, returned to the starting lineup after being benched for the first leg at the MKM Stadium.
The experienced defender delivered a composed display at the heart of the defence and played the full 90 minutes as Hull advanced 2-0 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, Azeez saw his hopes of featuring in the Premier League next campaign come to an end for now - despite enjoying an impressive individual season with Millwall.
The 24-year-old winger played a key role in helping Millwall secure a playoff place, contributing 11 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
His impressive performances in the Championship have fuelled speculation over his future, with Premier League clubs such as Brighton & Hove Albion and AFC Bournemouth reportedly monitoring his situation.
Despite missing out on the playoff final, Azeez could still feature in the Premier League next season if he secures a move to the English top flight.
