Confirmed: 2024 MLS Coach of the Year to manage Iheanacho at Celtic
Celtic have appointed Wilfried Nancy as its new manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
The announcement was made through the official website of the club on Wednesday evening. Nancy will officially take charge of the first team from Thursday, December 4, 2025.
The appointment comes as Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho returns to training after spending a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Iheanacho has not featured for Celtic since the matchday three Europa League clash with Sturm Graz.
Iheanacho joined Celtic in September and has made eight appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
He has also been named in Eric Chelle’s 54-man provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco later this month.
Nancy joins Celtic from Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, where he won the MLS Cup and the Leagues Cup and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2024.
He previously led CF Montreal to the Canadian Championship in 2021.
Celtic’s management confirmed that Nancy will receive full support as he assumes his role with the club.
The club also acknowledged the interim work done by Martin O’Neill, Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham, and Stephen McManus during the recent transitional period.
