Through a statement on the official website, French Ligue 1 club FC Metz have confirmed that dual-national forward Joel Asoro has been loaned out to Swedish Allsvenskan outfit Djurgården IF.
Although Asoro has two caps for Sweden's senior national team, he remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles as the appearances against Finland and Iceland came in friendly matches.
The Stockholm-born attacker was once the youngest player of Nigerian descent to appear in the English Premier League, debuting for Sunderland against Middlesbrough on August 21, 2016 at 17 years, 3 months and 25 days.
In recent seasons, Shola Shoretire, Chido Obi, Rio Ngumoha and record-holder Ethan Nwaneri have all made their Premier League debuts at younger ages.
Having made eight appearances and logging 223 minutes in Ligue 1 during the 2025–2026 season, Asoro is leaving Metz in search of adequate game time.
The 26-year-old will finish the season in Sweden, where he has been loaned to Djurgårdens IF until August 15.
He is returning to Djurgårdens IF for a second spell, having previously represented the club from 2021 to 2023, during which he scored 21 goals and provided 13 assists in 98 appearances.
Apart from the aforementioned teams, Asoro lists Swansea City, Groningen and Genoa as his former clubs.
