Semi Ajayi has taken to social media to celebrate West Brom's shock 5-2 rout of Chelsea in a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, April 3.
Having missed the last four matches played by the Baggies before the trip to the English capital, manager Sam Allardyce recalled the Nigeria national teamer to the starting XI to compensate for the enforced absence of Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher, who was ineligible to face his parent club.
Given his Arsenal background, the victory against the Blues would be sweet for Ajayi who captained the Gunners U21 team during his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for the hosts in the 27th minute but the dynamic of the game completely changed when Thiago Silva was shown a red card two minutes later.
Braces from Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson, and Mbaye Diagne's strike secured West Brom their fourth league win of the season, while Mason Mount reduced the deficit on 71 minutes.
In
the 54th minute, Ajayi was in the right place to maintain West Brom's
lead when he poked Alonso's effort on to the post and out for a corner.
Reacting to the win, the Super Eagle posted on Instagram : "+3 Massive Win! 💪🾠Have a blessed Easter weekend baggies family ðŸ™ðŸ¾ #GIG #SA6 âš½ï¸".
Ajayi was an unused substitute in the Super Eagles last two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho.
