Werder Bremen have confirmed that full-back Felix Agu has suffered an adductor muscle injury following their 2-1 defeat to FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga.
The club stated that the 26-year-old sustained the injury during the pre-match warm-up after being named in the starting lineup but was forced to withdraw before kickoff.
The diagnosis was confirmed after an MRI scan conducted on Monday at the Paracelsus Clinic, which revealed a muscular injury in Agu’s adductor region.
The club also recalled that the player had only recently returned from a previous ankle injury.
Head coach Daniel Thioune said on the club’s official website, “In the situation we are currently in, every absence is even more significant. Felix had only just returned from his ankle injury. We hope that he will be available to us again as soon as possible.”
Agu has been working to re-establish himself in the squad after his international commitments with the Nigeria national football team were affected by injury.
He made his international debut in 2025 during the Unity Cup in England but later suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury to his ankle in October 2025, which required surgery.
That injury ruled him out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and also prevented him from participating in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The latest setback may also affect his availability for Nigeria’s scheduled participation in a four-nation invitational tournament in Amman, Jordan, in March 2026.
Nigeria are expected to face Iran national football team and Jordan national football team in the competition starting 27 March 2026.
No recovery timeline has yet been confirmed as medical staff continue monitoring his rehabilitation progress.
