First Squad Involvement For 'New Okocha' As Man Utd Record Comfortable Win Vs Real Sociedad
Nigeria-eligible youngster Shola Shoretire, who has been dubbed the new Jay-Jay Okocha, is inching closer to his professional debut for English Premier League giants Manchester United.
For the first time in his career, the winger and attacking midfielder was included in a matchday squad as Manchester United registered a comfortable 4-0 win against Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
However, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted not to introduce Shoretire off the bench for his senior debut.
He would have become the youngest player to represent Manchester United in European competition if he made his debut against Real Sociedad.
The current record is held by Norman Whiteside who made his European bow for the Red Devils against Valencia in the UEFA Cup at Old Trafford in 1982 aged 17 years and four months.
With the Red Devils practically guaranteed qualification to the last sixteen, the Anglo-Nigerian starlet stands a good chance of being involved in the return leg in a week's time at Old Trafford.
Fresh from signing his first professional contract, Shoretire has been promoted to United's first team bubble but is allowed to feature for the U23s in the Premier League 2.
Manchester United defeated the La Liga side thanks to a Bruno Fernandes brace and goals from Marcus Rashford and Daniel James.
