Emmanuel Fernandez has expressed delight after scoring on his first full international start for the Super Eagles in their 2-2 draw against Jordan in Antalya, Turkey.
The Rangers centre-back, who recently broke into the national team, capped an impressive outing by finding the net late in the first half to hand Nigeria a deserved lead heading into the break.
The 24-year-old had earlier made his senior debut in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Iran, but his first start against Jordan proved even more memorable.
Fernandez combined defensive solidity with attacking threat, underlining his growing influence within the squad.
However, Nigeria were unable to hold on to their advantage as Mohammad Al-Daoud struck in the second half to secure a share of the spoils for the Middle Eastern side.
Reacting after the match, Fernandez took to social media to celebrate the milestone, describing the experience as both an honour and a proud moment in his career.
'Honoured And Grateful To Play For Nigeria... First Start, First Goal. Enjoyable Experience,” he wrote on Instagram.
Fernandez, who joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer, has enjoyed an impressive run of form, putting early doubts over his signing firmly to rest.
The Nigeria international has stood out with his all-round performances, contributing solidly in defence while also posing a threat in attack, with five goals in 21 league appearances.
As club football resumes, Fernandez will be eager to sustain his fine momentum and play a key role in Rangers’ pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title.
