Eberechi Eze played on the left side of a four-man midfield as Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in a Premier League clash at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.
Jose Mourinho's team extended their unbeaten run to eleven matches in the division but conceded for the first time in six matches when Jeffrey Schlupp converted from close range after goalkeeper Lloris failed to handle a wicked free-kick from Eze nine minutes from time.
Harry Kane opened the scoring just as he did on the last day of the 2019-2020 season when Spurs visited Selhurst Park, the number 10 took an early shot and caught out Guaita from long range to give the north London club a 1-0 lead.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Eze was at fault for the goal scored by the England captain.
Speaking at half time for Premier League Productions' coverage of the match, Sherwood said : "When it comes to the goal, they vacate the middle of the pitch, Harry Kane is isolated up, he knows he can drift 40 yards.
"Eze needs to come off the line and the rest is history.
"It is a poor goalkeeping error but Roy Hodgson will be on the side of the pitch, he knows when Harry drifts up, he can see him drifting up, he'll say make sure we cover the center of the pitch.
"Eze has to come off the line and come in centrally, hasn't done it, they got punished".
Eze had a chance to make amends in the 43rd minute when he made space for a shot inside the box but saw his effort hit the far post.
The Crystal Palace Player of the Month and Goal of the Month winner made way for Spurs old boy Andros Townsend in the 89th minute.
