Forward eligible for Nigeria through paternal grandfather scores 21st goal of the season for Liverpool youth

Highly rated tri-national forward Josh Sonni-Lambie continued his fine form on Saturday, netting the game-winning goal as Liverpool secured a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough in an U18 Premier League North Fixture.

An England U18 international, Sonni-Lambie is also eligible for Nigeria's Super Eagles and Spain's La Roja through his paternal grandfather and grandmother respectively.

After combining with Erik Farkas, Sonni-Lambie produced a composed left-footed finish from distance, picking out the bottom corner with just over an hour played to break the deadlock.

Regarded as one of the most exciting prospects within Liverpool’s academy, Sonni-Lambie has played above his age group this season, making full debuts in both the EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League.

Overall, the 18-year-old has tallied twenty-one goals in all competitions in 2025-2026, including 16 in the U18 Premier League.

He has also caught the eye in the UEFA Youth League, registering five goal involvements (2 goals, 3 assists) from seven appearances.

Sonni-Lambie has been on the books of Liverpool since U14 level, rising through the ranks to sign his first professional contract in February 2025.
