Fulham's Bassey declared fit to face Liverpool after withdrawal from Super Eagles squad

Fulham have been handed a timely boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool, with manager Marco Silva confirming that Calvin Bassey is in contention for a place in the travelling squad to Anfield, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the Portuguese tactician revealed that the Leicester City academy graduate is now fully fit, having withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad for their March internationals due to a back issue.

Bassey missed Nigeria's friendlies against Iran and Jordan in Antalya, raising concerns that he might struggle to be ready for Fulham's matchday 32 encounter with the reigning champions.

In his absence, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle handed a late call-up to Trabzonspor centre-back Chibuike Nwaiwu as Bassey's replacement on the eve of the match against Team Melli.

This season, Bassey has started 21 of the 25 Premier League games he has been available for, scoring once and winning a penalty in Fulham's 3-1 victory over Sunderland in February.

It is assumed that Bassey's international teammates, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze, will also be available on Saturday, with Silva confirming that all his returning internationals came back to the club in good condition.

Both Chukwueze and Iwobi featured in the two friendlies against Iran and Jordan.
