Full house in Cairo as Super Eagles main man Osimhen reports for duty

Super Eagles marquee striker Victor Osimhen has arrived at the team’s camp in Cairo, completing Nigeria’s full squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament scheduled to be held in Morocco.

Osimhen reported for duty on Wednesday at the Renaissance Hotel in Cairo, where the Super Eagles opened camp on Sunday as part of their preparations for an international friendly against Egypt and the upcoming AFCON campaign.

The Super Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Pharaohs on Tuesday evening at the Cairo International Stadium, a match in which Osimhen’s absence was keenly felt as Nigeria struggled to break down Egypt’s compact defence in front of their home supporters.

Goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Stanley Nwabali were among the early arrivals to camp, alongside several members of the technical crew.

The squad gradually swelled in number as more players joined ahead of the friendly encounter.

With Osimhen’s arrival, the Super Eagles now have a full complement of players in camp, including Francis Uzoho, Stanley Nwabali, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Akinsanmiro Ebenezer, Amas Obasogie, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Igho Ogbu, Tochukwu Nnadi, Zaidu Sanusi, Paul Onuachu, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Cyril Dessers, Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, Raphael Onyedika, Ryan Alebiosu, Salim Fago, Chidozie Awaziem, Usman Mohammed, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon.

The friendly against Egypt forms part of Nigeria’s build-up to the 2025 AFCON, where the Super Eagles have been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.

Nigeria will begin their group campaign against Tanzania on December 23, face Tunisia on December 27, and conclude the group stage against Uganda on December 30.

Head coach Éric Chelle will be aiming to guide the Super Eagles to a fourth AFCON title in Morocco, as the team seeks redemption following the disappointment of failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
