Hull City assistant manager Dean Holden has issued a fitness update on Semi Ajayi ahead of their Championship fixture against Derby County at the MKM Stadium.
Holden revealed that the Nigerian International is making progress but has not yet returned to full team training ahead of the clash on Tuesday.
Ajayi, who joined the Tigers during the summer transfer window, played an important role for Nigeria national football team as they secured a bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian international was also named Man of the Match after finding the net and delivering a solid performance to help Nigeria secure victory over Tanzania in their opening match of the tournament.
However, since returning from the tournament, the former Arsenal defender has yet to make an appearance for Hull City, missing seven matches across all competitions.
Speaking to Hull Live, Holden revealed that Ajayi's recovery is moving in the right direction, although he is still working individually to build up match fitness.
"Semi (Ajayi) is going well, but again, not back in the team training just yet," he said. "Toby's (Collyer) a little bit behind Semi. He's still doing some individual rehab."
The 32-year-old remains a key player for the Tigers when available, having made 12 Championship appearances and scored once this season.
His return would provide a significant boost for the coaching staff as Hull City enter a decisive phase of the campaign, with the club pushing to strengthen their bid for promotion to the Premier League.
