Former West Ham United goalkeeper Rob Green has expressed disappointment over a missed first-half opportunity by Calvin Bassey during Fulham’s goalless draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Bassey, who played the full 90 minutes, came close to giving the Cottagers the lead in the first half when he rose to meet a precise delivery from fellow Nigerian Alex Iwobi.
However, his header was brilliantly kept out by Forest’s Belgian goalkeeper Matz Sels, who produced a sharp save to keep the scores level.
Reacting to the moment, Green praised the goalkeeper’s intervention but insisted the Nigerian defender should have done better with the opportunity.
"It's brilliant from Sels," the former England International analyzed on Sky Sports. "Bassey steals in and has to score."
Despite the missed opportunity, Bassey delivered a solid defensive performance for Fulham.
However, he had a nervy moment early in the second half when he challenged substitute Dan Ndoye inside the penalty area after the Forest forward appeared to be through on goal.
The former Leicester City defender bundled Ndoye to the ground, sparking penalty appeals from the visitors.
Fortunately for Fulham, the move was halted after Ndoye was flagged for offside, sparing Bassey and his side from a potential penalty decision.
