'He's a world-class player' - Garcia not surprised by Lookman's form at Atletico Madrid

Former Spanish forward, Raúl García has praised the impressive start made by Ademola Lookman at Atlético Madrid, describing the Nigerian forward as a “world-class player” following his strong performances since arriving in January.

Lookman joined the Rojiblancos from Atalanta during the winter transfer window and has quickly established himself as an important figure in Diego Simeone’s side.

The Nigeria international has contributed four goals and four assists in 13 appearances across all competitions, helping Atlético maintain momentum in both domestic and European campaigns.

His performances have drawn widespread praise, and García admitted he is not surprised by how quickly the 28-year-old has adapted to life in Spain.

Speaking ahead of Atlético’s highly anticipated derby clash with city rivals Real Madrid on Sunday, the retired Spain international highlighted Lookman’s immediate impact.

"He's hit the ground running. It's not easy to break into the team like he has. I think he's a world-class player," he said via Europa Press. "I'm not surprised by what he's doing."

Lookman also delivered an impressive performance as Atlético Madrid secured an aggregate victory over Tottenham Hotspur to book their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian international, who has quickly become an influential figure for the Rojiblancos since his arrival, registered an assist for the opening goal scored by Julián Álvarez in the encounter.

The 28-year-old will be eager to maintain his impressive form as Atlético Madrid look to secure another important victory and strengthen their push in the title race.
