Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has opened up about his emotions after a moving pre-match tribute by Galatasaray fans ahead of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Liverpool at Rams Park on Tuesday.
The choreography displayed in the stands behind the goal featured an image of Osimhen in his Galatasaray jersey alongside a depiction of his mother, who he lost at a young age.
The gesture left the Nigerian forward visibly emotional.
"I've been very happy since I arrived wearing this jersey. This jersey is very special. I wanted to do my best for these fans," Osimhen told Galatasaray's official website.
He added, "I'm experiencing completely different emotions here. I lost my mother at a young age, and the fans made me very happy today. That's why it's so important to me."
Osimhen also spoke about the bond he feels with Galatasaray supporters.
"We are a family with the Galatasaray fans. We did a very good job today. I think we can hurt Liverpool in the return match. We've done a good job so far," he said.
On the pitch, Osimhen played a crucial role as Galatasaray secured a 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
His early header from a corner was expertly redirected by Mario Lemina to give the hosts a seventh-minute lead.
Throughout the match, Osimhen remained a constant attacking threat and came close to scoring from a free-header .
Despite not finding the net himself, his influence was decisive in Galatasaray maintaining their lead.
Galatasaray will look to carry the momentum and the emotional energy from the home crowd into the second leg against Liverpool, with Osimhen expected to play a key role once again.
