Fulham winger Samuel Chukwueze was on Tuesday afternoon presented with the Royal Caribbean Legend of the Game award for his impressive display in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Sunderland.
The award, presented by Fulham teammate Calvin Bassey at the club’s training facility, recognised Chukwueze’s decisive contribution to the victory.
The Nigerian international came off the bench in the 64th minute and quickly made an impact, providing the assist for Raúl Jiménez’s match-winning goal.
In a video shared by Fulham's official X account, Bassey asked Chukwueze about his reaction to the award: “Hey my guy, you're the Caribbean legend of the game. Congrats, my bro. Oh, no. No. Congrats. Congrats. Thank you so much.”
Bassey followed up, asking how he felt about the recognition. Chukwueze replied: “First of many. What else do you have to say? Nothing else, it's just help my team. I'm cooking. You know, I'm still cooking. I'm cooking. I'm still cooking now. I need to make it well done, you know. It's still medium rare. I need to cook this very well. Thank you.”
Chukwueze’s contribution proved decisive as Fulham secured the narrow victory over Sunderland. After being introduced midway through the second half, he delivered a precise cross that allowed Jiménez to score in the middle of the pitch, ensuring the team claimed all three points.
The Royal Caribbean Legend of the Game award recognises outstanding individual performances that directly influence the outcome of a match.
Chukwueze’s assist demonstrated his creativity and impact on the field, earning him the accolade from his fellow professional, Bassey, in a ceremony held at Fulham’s training ground.
Both players are expected to be named in Eric Chelle’s provisional list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations this week.
