Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi has admitted that central defence is his least preferred position on the pitch.
A product of Nath Boys in Lagos, Ndidi actually started his career as a center half and is still handed defensive duties to this day but does so from the middle of the park.
The 25-year-old started all of Nigeria's matches at the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup in the center-back position and it was after the tournament in New Zealand that he was converted into a holding midfielder by the Racing Genk coaches.
In Leicester City's most recent game against Newcastle United, Ndidi switched from the holding midfield position to center back after Jonny Evans was forced to withdraw in the fifth minute following an injury.
"It was really strange because it’s been so long," Ndidi explained to LCFC TV.
"You had to go back into defence during the game, not a day before, knowing you would actually be playing in defence.
"It’s a different mindset during the game, but I was ready for it anyway. I’ll always try my best.
"I’m up for anything, but my most preferred position is in the midfield because there’s lots to do. In that moment, I was just trying to be myself in that position, and trying to keep it simple."
Ndidi is expected to be named in Leicester City's matchday squad when they take on eight-time winners Liverpool in the quarterfinal of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
