Through a statement on the official website, the Premier League has confirmed that former England U20 international of Nigerian descent Tim Iroegbunam is nearing a ban.
The Everton midfielder is one of twenty-three Premier League players currently sitting on four yellow cards—just one caution short of triggering a one-match ban.
Under league regulations, any player who receives five yellow cards within the first 19 fixtures of the season must serve an automatic suspension.
Notably, cautions accumulated in the Premier League do not carry over into the Carabao Cup or FA Cup.
Iroegbunam is now walking a disciplinary tightrope and must avoid further bookings over Everton’s next six league matches, beginning with Tuesday night’s trip to Bournemouth.
Should he be shown another yellow card before matchweek 20, he will be ruled out of the subsequent fixture.
The midfielder has so far been cautioned against Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Fulham.
Despite his disciplinary concerns, the Aston Villa academy graduate has featured in ten Premier League matches this season, contributing two assists in games against Crystal Palace and Fulham.
According to Premier League rules, a two-match suspension will be imposed on any player who reaches ten yellow cards within their first 32 league appearances of the campaign.
