Cape Verdean sports commentator Cardoso da Silva has revealed that all Cape Verdeans are dreaming of the national team beating Nigeria in Tuesday's crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The Blue Sharks kept their World Cup hopes alive after coming from behind to register a hard-fought 2-1 win over Central African Republic on matchday five, taking the Islanders to ten points heading into the final round of matches, two less than Group C table-toppers Nigeria.
Only the top team in each group will progress through to the pLayoff round, meaning a draw is enough to see the Super Eagles advance in a race that has gone down to the wire.
"Dreaming is not prohibited, it is forbidden not to dream. Cape Verde is already dreaming," da Silva told RFI.
"All Cape Verdeans are dreaming. Nobody speaks. of anything other than the possible victory against Nigeria ".
" It's unprecedented, it's true. Nobody doubts that. I, as a sports analyst, have my opinion.
"Cape Verde goes to Nigeria and even if it loses it has already made a great journey in these qualifiers because it is in second place and forces Nigeria to pulling hard to try to win the game.
"Nobody dreamed that Cape Verde's national team would one day be one step away, just one game away, just 90 minutes from entering the 2022 World Cup playoff."
The Super Eagles are looking to complete a double over Cape Verde having beaten them 2-1 in an away match back in September.
