Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that his decision to change representation is driven by his ambition to reach a higher level in his managerial career, amid growing speculation linking him with a move to French side Olympique Marseille.
The Malian tactician recently ended his working relationship with agent Abraham Sidibe, the representative who facilitated his appointment as Nigeria's head coach, and signed with a new management agency.
Speaking in an interview with sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana from Marseille, Chelle said the move was part of a deliberate career progression plan.
"It is time for me to take myself to another level. I felt that this agency will give me the required support and advice that I need to do this," Chelle said on Wednesday.
Chelle's profile rose significantly following Nigeria's impressive outing at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Malian tactician guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt.
Under the his leadership, Nigeria emerged as the tournament's most prolific attacking side, scoring a total of 14 goals.
The Super Eagles also impressed defensively, finishing the competition without losing a match in regulation time.
The impressive campaign has, however, sparked speculation about his future with the national team, with reports linking him to French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
With just one year left on his current contract, the Nigeria Football Federation will be keen to sort his future ahead of preparation for the next AFCON tournament.
