Former Arsenal central defender Matthew Upson has blasted Manchester City's Nathan Ake for giving away a penalty in the closing minutes of the Community Shield clash against Leicester City on Saturday evening.
Three minutes from time, referee Paul Tierney pointed to the spot after the Netherlands international was caught in possession and brought Iheanacho down in his attempt to recover the ball.
The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled that Tierney made the right decision to award a penalty to Leicester City.
Leicester City claimed their second silverware in the space of four months after winning last season's FA Cup, thanks to Iheanacho who confidently converted from twelve yards.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Upson said : "I don't see too much controversy in the penalty decision. It was a really sloppy mistake by Ake, he was so slow addressing the ball against two strikers fresh off the bench.
"It doesn't surprise me that it was given as a foul and VAR have looked at it and not overturned it."
Iheanacho finished last season as Leicester City's top scorer in all competitions with 19 goals and has become the first player to find the net for the FA Cup holders in 2021-2022.
