Shanghai Shenhua loanee Odion Ighalo has made it clear he wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond January 31 2021.
The former Nigeria international was offered another short-term contract in June after catching the eye in Cup competitions for the Red Devils with four goals combined in the Emirates FA Cup and Europa League.
Ighalo is aware that signing a new deal with United is not in his hands, but hopes to do well so as to improve his chances of being retained by the club he has been supporting all his life.
"It's my darling team, I'd like to stay but that does not depend on me, it depends on what I do, how I work and people up there but now I don't want to think about that," Ighalo told BBC's Mimi Fawaz.
"Now it's for us to start the season this weekend, we grind from now till whenever.
"It's a club I supported from when I was young and I'm always grateful to God that this is my dream and I'm living it and nothing else matters."
Ighalo and his Manchester United teammates will be hoping to stretch their unbeaten run in the Premier League to fifteen matches when they take on Eberechi Eze's Crystal Palace this evening.
