Super Eagles stand-in captain Victor Osimhen has spoken highly of Paul Onuachu following Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over Uganda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday.

The win completed Nigeria’s group stage campaign with nine points from three matches, securing top spot in Group C and a place in the round of 16. 

During the match, Paul Onuachu scored his first goal in the Afcon, a moment celebrated by teammates and fans alike.

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone about Onuachu’s contribution, Osimhen said, “Paul Onuachu is family to me. I’ve known Paul for so many years. I’m happy for his first goal with a great performance.” 

On the subject of club affiliations and discussions, Osimhen clarified that the team remains focused solely on national duty. 

“To be honest we don't talk about clubs because this is national assignment. We're just focusing on what lies ahead,” he said, reinforcing the team’s commitment to the Super Eagles.

Looking ahead to the knockout stages of the tournament, Osimhen confirmed that all attention is now on the next opponent in the round of 16. 

“We just focus on the Super Eagles and the matches, so for me we just talk about our next opponent in the round of 16, so this is what our main focus is,” he stated.

With Group C concluded and the round of 16 looming, the Super Eagles now turn their attention to their upcoming match, carrying forward the momentum built from victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
