Lagos-born former Ireland U21 international ends 9-year association with Rotherham United

With a statement on their official website, Rotherham United have confirmed their retained and released list ahead of the 20226-2027 season.

The Millers have announced that academy graduate Joshua Kayode will end his nine-year professional association with the club upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2026.

A former Republic of Ireland U21 international, the forward, who grew up in Dublin, progressed through the academy ranks before making his senior debut for Rotherham United in an EFL Trophy clash against Manchester City U21s in August 2017.

In search of adequate playing opportunities, Kayode enjoyed loan spells at Chesterfield, Gateshead, Carlisle United, Milton Keynes Dons and Shrewsbury Town.

The 26-year-old signed a contract extension with the Millers last May, with the club retaining the option to extend his stay by a further season.

However, Rotherham have decided against activating the clause after he played only a limited role during the recently concluded campaign.

The attacker scored three goals and provided four assists in 52 appearances as a Rotherham United player.

Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian players Lenny Agbaire and Emmanuel Adegboyega, who are both defenders, are expected to report for pre-season training as they are among the players retained.
