Coventry manager Frank Lampard has provided a positive update on the fitness of Frank Onyeka ahead of the Super Eagles' upcoming international friendly matches against Iran and Jordan later this month.
The midfielder, who is currently on loan at Coventry City from Brentford, had sparked injury concerns after receiving several heavy challenges during Coventry's defeat to Southampton at the CBS Arena.
Despite the concerns surrounding his fitness, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle included Onyeka in Nigeria's 23-man squad for the March friendlies.
Providing an update ahead of the clash against Swansea City in the Championship on Saturday, Lampard indicated that the Nigerian midfielder has made encouraging progress in his recovery.
The former Chelsea midfielder revealed that Onyeka has resumed training earlier in the week and could be available for selection.
"He's been in training," Lampard told Coventry Telegraph, suggesting that the midfielder is fit enough to return to action at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Onyeka has been an important figure for Coventry since completing his loan move during the winter transfer window. His energy in midfield, ball-winning ability, and relentless work rate have made him a valuable asset for the Sky Blues as they push for promotion to the Premier League.
The 28-year-old will be hoping to feature against Swansea as Coventry aim to return to winning ways and strengthen their push for automatic promotion.
His return would also come as a major boost for Nigeria ahead of the upcoming international friendlies, with Onyeka expected to play a key role in midfield.
