Leicester boss explains thinking behind introducing Iheanacho at halftime in loss to Chelsea

Leicester City lost for the fifth time in the Premier League this season on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at the King Power Stadium.

The European champions were already leading 2-0 at the interval courtesy of strikes from Antonio Rudiger and N'Golo Kante before United States international Christian Pulisic made the points safe with Chelsea's third goal in the 71st minute, nine minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Having started on the bench, Kelechi Iheanacho came on to replace Ademola Lookman at halftime but the Nigeria international did not click just like his teammates.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has explained the reasoning behind his decision to introduce James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho at the interval.

"To bring more technique into the game. We played exactly the same system in the first half, trying to keep the two wingers in," Rodgers said to Leicester City's official website.

"[We wanted] to bring that technicality and physicality to the game. We changed it and the two guys, they came in and did well in the game, and were much better."

Of his eleven appearances in the Premier League so far this season, Iheanacho came off the bench on seven occasions.
