Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Tolu Arokodare has offered fresh insight into his slow introduction to Premier League football, explaining that both former head coach Vitor Pereira and new manager Rob Edwards have been clear and supportive during his adaptation period.
Arokodare, who arrived from Genk without a full pre-season, has featured mostly from the bench this campaign.
Yet the 25-year-old says he fully understands why his minutes have been managed carefully.
Reflecting on his early discussions with Pereira, he noted that the Portuguese coach helped him settle and understand the expectations placed on him.
“I had good conversations with Vitor Pereira, and he explained to me perfectly,” Arokodare said, as quoted by Express and Star, describing how the former Wolves boss outlined the need for patience as he adjusted to the speed and physicality of English football.
The forward added that he is “still new to the league” and accepts that learning the demands of the Premier League requires time.
Despite limited appearances, Arokodare remains focused on improvement.
He emphasised that his primary goal is to meet the standards set by the coaching staff, even if that means spending spells outside the starting lineup.
“If I have to stay out of the team and learn, I am OK with it,” he said.
Since Rob Edwards took charge, the striker has also held direct discussions with the new manager.
Arokodare explained that Edwards has clearly outlined his expectations and the areas where he wants the Nigerian to develop.
“The new coach, Rob, has spoken with me, and he has told me what he wants from me, and I just have to keep doing it,” he said.
The former Genk forward, who has already scored two goals for the Super Eagles, is expected to be considered for selection in Eric Chelle’s provisional roster for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
