England youth team coaches have identified Nigeria-eligible defender Habeeb Ogunneye as a player with leadership qualities, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Ogunneye trained with the Young Lions this week and captained one of the England U17 sides in an intrasquad game staged on August 5.
The Manchester United U16 defender has been promoted to the England U17s squad for the 2021-2022 campaign after training with the U16s last season.
He has the ability to play multiple positions in defence including center back and right-back.
Ogunneye regularly plays up the age groups at Manchester United and everything points to the fact that he will make his competitive debut for the U18s as a schoolboy in the new season.
The 2005-born player, who is eligible to sign scholarship forms with the Red Devils before July 2022, is now as fit as a fiddle after recovering from a long-term injury.
Ogunneye was involved with Manchester United U17s last season, featuring in friendly matches for the age group.
