Manuel Akanji Aims Thinly Veiled Dig At Swiss Federation, Spotted Wearing Nigeria Jersey

Switzerland World Cup star Manuel Akanji's latest post on social media has left room for speculation that he is unhappy about the statements made by Associação Suíça de Futebol (ASF) secretary general Alex Miescher.

Alex Miescher had proposed in the wake of Switzerland's elimination from the 2018 World Cup that players with dual nationality who do not give up their other passport should not be invited to the national team.

Switzerland internationals of Albanian descent, Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, made the double Albanian eagle with their hands in celebration of their goals against Serbia at the World Cup, and were later fined by Fifa for ''unsporting behaviour contrary to the principles of fair-play''.

Akanji, who is holidaying in Ibiza, Spain, has published a photo in which he was wearing the Nigeria National Team jersey, his second nationality.

''Holidays🐳 #oklm #recharching #brigante #vatoslocos,'' Akanji tweeted

The Borussia Dortmund central defender's father is from the Yoruba speaking part of Nigeria and his mom is from Oberwinterthur in Switzerland.
