Michael Owen Speaks On Manchester United New Signings Odion Ighalo, Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United were active in the closing week of the January transfer window, bringing in a striker with Premier League experience from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, Odion Ighalo and Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Club de Portugal.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to go into the transfer market to sign a center forward following the injury suffered by Marcus Rashford, while Fernandes was acquired as a replacement for France World Cup winner Paul Pogba, who is injured and has been linked with a departure from Old Trafford in the coming months.

Speaking ahead of this weekend's Premier League games shown live by SuperSport, ex-Manchester United star Michael Owen shed light on United's capture of Ighalo and Fernandes.

"I think as Owen (Hargreaves) just mentioned there Ighalo is more of a desperation signing, if I'm honest, in his search for anyone upfront just to almost fill a gap,'' Michael Owen said.

"Bruno Fernandes, I am excited about him because of his numbers - his stats, his goals, his assists - it's exactly what Manchester United need at the moment."

During his previous stint in England with Watford, Ighalo scored 40 goals in 100 appearances, and has tallied 46 goals in 74 matches since moving to China in January 2017.
