Championship club Middlesbrough have opened talks to sign former Nigeria U20 international Sammy Ameobi, according to Football Insider.
Ameobi was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2020-2021 campaign, and he may not have to wait too long before joining a new team as Boro are working on a deal to sign him.
Middlesbrough are looking for offensive reinforcements with the future of Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom up in the air while Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher have not been re-engaged for next season.
In 81 appearances for Forest spread across two seasons, Ameobi managed to score 8 goals whilst registering eleven assists for his teammates.
A product of the Newcastle United academy, he counts Bolton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough as his previous clubs.
Ameobi spent a portion of the 2012-2013 season on loan at Boro, scoring one goal and bagging an assist in nine matches.
Middlesbrough have also been linked with a possible move for another attack-minded Nigerian player, Uche Ikpeazu who wants a new challenge following the demotion of Wycombe Wanderers to League One.
