'My second 90 minutes' - Hull Ciity's Ajayi delighted to return to full fitness after Afcon injury

Semi Ajayi has expressed satisfaction with his return to full fitness after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), stating that he is gradually regaining his rhythm as the season enters a crucial stage.

Ajayi played a key role for the Nigeria national football team in Morocco, helping the team secure a bronze medal after defeating Egypt national football team on penalties in the third-place playoff.

The defender picked up a hamstring injury during the clash with the Pharaohs, keeping him out of action for several weeks.

The 32-year-old missed a number of Championship fixtures during his recovery period, including matches against Preston North End, Swansea City, Blackburn Rovers, Watford, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers, Derby County and Portsmouth.

Ajayi eventually returned to action in Hull City’s encounter against Millwall and has since started two of the club’s last three matches.

Reflecting on his return, the Nigeria international said he is pleased with his progress and hopeful of playing a key role for the Tigers as the campaign approaches its final stretch.

“I am feeling really good. It was my second 90 minutes, so I am getting back into the full swing of things and looking forward to pushing for the rest of the season,” Ajayi told Hull's official webpage

Ajayi, who played the full duration of the recent defeat to West Bromwich Albion, also emphasised the importance of bouncing back quickly when Hull City host Sheffield Wednesday.

“We are looking forward to being back in front of our fans. There is no easy game in this league, so we won’t be taking it lightly,” he added.

He further stressed that the squad must quickly move on from the previous result and focus on delivering a strong performance in the upcoming fixture.

“We need to be at the top of our game and make sure that we are to put this result behind us," he said.

Ajayi enjoyed an impressive AFCON campaign, notably scoring and earning the Man of the Match award in Nigeria’s opening victory over Tanzania.

With his fitness improving, the experienced defender will be eager to rediscover his best form as Hull City continue their push to secure a Championship playoff place.
