Ndidi on win v Mozambique and Akor Adams, weighs in on Osimhen v Lookman on-field rift

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi praised his team’s performance following Nigeria’s commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday, which secured the nation a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, Ndidi reflected on both the positives and areas for improvement.

He emphasized the importance of learning from the game despite the comprehensive win, saying, "We'll just celebrate this one, focus on the things we should have done better because we had so many chances. We should have converted so many chances."

He added that the team would now review the match carefully, explaining, "So just going back, looking to this one and trying to correct our mistakes and we look forward to whoever comes next."

Ndidi also highlighted that the team’s primary focus remains on improving their own performance rather than worrying about future opponents.

He stated, "The main focus is on us. It's not who we are meeting. The main focus is trying to improve on our game."

The captain expressed satisfaction with Nigeria’s defensive display, which helped the Super Eagles keep a clean sheet for the first time in the tournament.

When asked about the defensive record, Ndidi said, "Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm very, very impressed. The most important, we got the win, which is more, more important. We up to the next level."

Addressing the brief on-field disagreement between Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, Ndidi praised the competitive spirit that fuels the team.

He explained, "It's a very competitive attitude, which I like because we want more. We, we're going for more. Yes, we miss so many chances. It's just when you want more and it's not coming. So I feel I'm very happy with the attitude because everyone wants more."

Ndidi also commended the performance of Akor Adams, who scored his first Afcon goal during the game.

The captain said, "Akor is an amazing player. He's a cool kid, cool guy, and we look forward to more, more things together."

Nigeria dominated proceedings from the outset, with Ademola Lookman opening the scoring in the 20th minute. Victor Osimhen then scored twice, before Adams capped the victory in the 75th minute.

With this win, the Super Eagles now await the winner of the Algeria versus DR Congo quarter-final clash in Marrakech, carrying momentum and confidence into the next stage.
