'Nigeria comes first' - Osayi-Samuel shares conversation with Arsenal midfielder about Super Eagles

Super Eagles fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel has revealed details of a recent conversation he had with Eberechi Eze during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, shedding light on the Arsenal star’s interest in Nigeria’s national team.

Osayi-Samuel, who played a key role in Nigeria’s campaign as the Super Eagles secured a bronze medal finish, disclosed that Eze reached out to him to ask about life inside the Eagles’ camp.

The Birmingham City defender described the exchange as telling, noting that Eze’s curiosity about the atmosphere within the squad reflected genuine interest in the team.

"Absolutely, even Eze one of my close friend that played with from young," he told OmaSportsTV

"We had a phone call actually, the question he asked was like, how is the camp like?"

"The fact that he's asking me that out of anything just showed that they are interested to see because you can see all over social media the vibes and how everyone is just enjoying football."

Eze, who was previously courted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), eventually pledged his international future to England despite strong efforts from Nigerian football authorities to secure his commitment.

The attacking midfielder was once close to representing the Super Eagles and even met with former NFF president Amaju Pinnick before making his final decision.

While acknowledging Eze’s decision to represent England, Osayi-Samuel stated that in another life, he would still advise the Arsenal midfielder to choose the Super Eagles.

"Of course, he has chosen England, but if it was another life I will tell him again, this same thing now, Nigeria comes first."

The ex-Crystal Palace midfielder has made 16 appearances for the England national team, netting three goals.
