Nigeria-eligible striker scores brace, provides assist as Chelsea U18s put six past Brighton
Left-footed Nigeria-eligible striker Tudor Mendel-Idowu was arguably the standout player for Chelsea as they came from behind to register an emphatic 6-1 win over Brighton & Hove in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The 2005-born player was on target and provided an assist on his starting debut in the U18 Premier League just before the international break and has followed that up with a goal involvement of three in today's clash against the Seagulls.
Mendel-Idowu was one of three teenagers of Nigerian descent named in Chelsea's starting lineup, the others being 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke and fullback Derrick Abu, while two others Richard Olise and Louis Flower were introduced in the second half.
After Elliot Jenks opened the scoring for Brighton in the 14th minute, the visitors equalised through Charlie Webster thirty minutes in, assisted by Mendel-Idowu before Mothersille scored to ensure the Blues were 2-1 up at the break.
Chelsea maintained their pressure and less than three minutes after the restart, Mendel-Idowu made it 3-1 and grabbed his brace in the 86th minute.
Leo Castledine and Edwin Castledine also got their names on the scoresheet in the second half.
Chelsea lead the way in the U18 Premier League South table with 22 points accumulated, same number of points as Southampton and Leicester City.
