Nigerian right-back joins Brentford after surprisingly turning down new Arsenal deal

English Premier League new boys Brentford are on the verge of announcing the signing of highly-rated Nigeria-eligible defender Daniel Oyegoke, according to reports.

The well-informed Secret Scout has confirmed through social media that Oyegoke has joined Brentford after surprisingly turning down a new contract at Arsenal.

The news was first broken by Goal.com's Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts.

The 2003-born fullback would have inked his first professional contract with the Gunners if he had extended his stay at the Emirates Stadium into a fifth season.

It is believed that Oyegoke rejected the contract extension offered by the Gunners because he felt there was no pathway into the first team despite training with the senior team on multiple occasions.

Originally a striker, Oyegoke was convinced to change his position to a right-back role by Per Mertesacker and ex-Arsenal Director of Development Marcel Lucassen.

The former Barnet starlet has played non-binding games for England at U16, U17 and U18 levels.
