No contract extension talks: New Super Eagles invitee receives green light to depart Genk

It is increasingly likely that new Super Eagles invitee Yira Sor will depart Belgian outfit Racing Genk in the summer transfer window.

Sor, who represented Nigeria at the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup, received his first Super Eagles call-up for the March internationals against Iran and Jordan.

Regarded as the fastest player in European football over the last two years, having recorded a top speed of 37.7 kilometers per hour during Genk's 3-0 win over Gent this month, the Nigerian is no longer a guaranteed starter at the Blue-White.

This season, he has made fifteen starts out of a possible 46 in all competitions.

According to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws via Voetbal Primeur, Genk feel this is the right moment to sell Sor, with his contract set to run out at the end of next season and there have been no discussions regarding an extension.

Genk are preparing to restructure their squad and the forward is not in the club's current plans.

After spells with 36 Lion, Baník Ostrava and Slavia Prague, Sor was acquired by Racing Genk for a fee of 6.5 million euros in January 2023.

In recent seasons, Genk have generated significant profits from the sales of Nigeria international forwards Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare.
